RBK 50 Cent advert
The use of a celebrity/well known figure in this advert was intentional. This may have been used to target a certain audience who likes this artist and those are the people who might be more inclined to buy the the company's products. An entire narrative can be formed from the audience just looking at this one picture. For example due to the low-key lighting it could give a sense of mystery. The split screen gives the idea of having 'two sides' and that possible the crime aspect is all this person is seen for. Due to this he could be battling stereotypes that come with this. The fingerprints on the right side of the screen also illustrate how there is an obvious crime theme here. The shot of 50 Cent is a head shot which could be seen as personal as his scar is visible, which further depicts how this advert is from a true story which is used to influence others.
This company effectively uses the serif font to display the text "I am what I am." This gives the audience the idea that it is possible to overcome challenges and he just wants to be seen for who he is and not what has taken place in the past. This is also an example of a direct mode of address which catches the target audience's attention. The use of the quote also influences the audience and may be something the younger generation is more likely to listen to.
Chanel print advert analysis
This advert is from 1959 and is clearly advertising their No.5 perfume which is still something they are famous for today. The woman in this pose and the smoke behind her collates to make a dramatic image. This may illustrate how you can become like her if you buy the advertised perfume. However, to contrast this ideology the text (in a sans serif font) at the bottom suggests that Chanel is promoting individuality as the perfume 'allows you to be yourself.' The use of a direct mode of address in this text may make the audience more inclined to pay attention at as it seems as though the company is 'talking' to the audience more personally. The low-key lighting may just be due to the time period but it could have also been to add to the dramatic effect. The full body shot was purposefully used in order to see the the woman's emotion while simultaneously seeing their physicality.
